Mohamed has expertise in Somali fisheries development, research, and project management. As project manager, he oversees Secure Fisheries’ work supporting co-management in Somali fishing communities. He graduated from Kampala International University with a master’s degree in economic policy and planning and holds a postgraduate certificate in research and statistics. He also has a bachelor’s degree in economics. Prior to joining Secure Fisheries, Mohamed spent eight years working in the humanitarian, public, and development sectors. He has worked for the United Nations Migration Agency, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Puntland Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, and the American Refugee Committee. His work has focused on enhancing fisheries livelihoods in coastal Somalia and providing at-risk communities with skills and knowledge that can help them cope with adversity and pursue new economic opportunities. Mohamed was involved in the FAO’s fisheries sector support program in the Somali region (Puntland, Somaliland, and South-Central), a Norway-funded project aimed at improving food security and resilience to shocks through strengthened and sustainable livelihoods within the Somali fisheries sector.
