Shuraako, a program of One Earth Future, hosted its third Investment Forum in Hargeisa, Somaliland. Business leaders, international donors, NGOs, and government officials came together for three days of panels and workshops exploring ways to increase investment in the Somaliland economy, domestically and from abroad. Secure Fisheries led a panel on expanding the fisheries sector. Panelists discussed the need for ice makers and cold chain equipment, the lack of scientific data to inform fisheries stock assessments, and the importance of training a new generation of fishers. Paige Roberts of Secure Fisheries also launched Project Badweyn, an online tool for mapping Somali coastal resources. Project Badweyn will provide information for Somali communities, managers, decision-makers, and investors to identify places in need of management and development plans that lead to long-term success of coastal projects.
