Secure Fisheries Urges More Research on Cage Aquaculture at African Great Lakes Conference

Africa Great Lakes Conference

Hundreds of scientists and policy makers gathered in Entebbe, Uganda for an historic conference on the African Great Lakes. Secure Fisheries’ Dr. Sarah Glaser spoke to the conference about the need for better baseline data collection and analysis of the impacts of cage aquaculture on the fisheries of Lake Victoria. Hot topics at the conference included cage aquaculture, illegal fishing, models of fisheries governance, climate change, and oil and mineral development. The conference produced a resolution to guide regional governments in conservation and development in a changing climate.
