Secure Fisheries Co-chairs first fisheries crime meeting of the Indian Ocean Forum on Maritime Crime (IOFMC)

Secure Fisheries co-sponsored and co-chaired the first fisheries crime meeting of the Indian Ocean Forum on Maritime Crime (IOFMC), held in the Seychelles on 20-21 October.  Meeting delegates included government representatives from Somalia, Mauritius, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Djibouti, Kenya, Bangladesh, Comoros, Maldives, Mozambique, Germany, Norway, and the United Kingdom.  Also in attendance were representatives from EUCAP NESTOR, EUNAVFOR, INTERPOL, FAO, FISH-i Africa, IOC, and the IOTC.

The key deliverable of the meeting was a communiqué that outlines next steps in collaboration and coordination of government and organizational activities to combat illegal fishing in the Indian Ocean.
