Presenting analysis of foreign trawling in Somalia at Society and the Sea Conference

Secure Fisheries’ Paige Roberts gave a presentation at the Society and the Sea Conference held on September 15-16, 2016 at the Greenwich Maritime Centre of the University of Greenwich, England. Her presentation was titled, “Complicated fisheries governance facilitates destructive fishing practices in Somali waters.” It was based on her analysis of the extent of foreign trawling off the coast of Puntland, Somalia and recent events that have complicated the management of those vessels.

The Society and the Sea Conference is an interdisciplinary event attended by international maritime stakeholders from non-governmental organizations and academia. Presentations were given on a range of topics, all of which address the important relationship between human societies and the ocean. It highlighted maritime challenges and proposed solutions. Paige spoke under the Governance & Security Theme.
